Marching Band Grading Policy

With our first competition only 9 days away, it is imperative that all students attend all rehearsals. Students with an unexcused absence from after school rehearsal from now on, will not be allowed to attend the competition(s).

"Students must attend all rehearsals to be eligible to perform. The student may be
asked to sit out for a performance or an alternate may replace a student who has
had an unexcused absence(s) from a rehearsal(s) and/or performance." from http://www.policy.mnps.org/AssetFactory.aspx?did=50370

In addition to missing the competition(s), students with unexcused absences from rehearsals will have that unexcused absence reflected on their band grade for the current quarter/ nine weeks in the "participation" category. ALL students taking part in the halftime show will receive a grade for every after school rehearsal and performance.

"Courses that are based on performance and require after-school rehearsals and/or performance are considered co-curricular courses. The students enrolled in said courses are expected to participate in and may be graded on after-school rehearsals and performances, as well as classroom assignments and assessments. An unexcused absence from an after-school rehearsal or performance will be given the same percentage of the nine-week grade as other after-school rehearsals or performances." from http://www.policy.mnps.org/AssetFactory.aspx?did=57079
The fine print:
- If a student misses rehearsal due to an unexcused absence and receives a grade of zero for participation on that day, S/he will not be allowed to attend the next competition. That student will receive a grade of "exc" for the competition.
- If a student has no unexcused absences from rehearsal, but has an unexcused absence from the competition, that student's grade for the competition will be a zero.
- A student who misses after school rehearsal will have a grade of zero for that rehearsal until a written excuse is provided. Doctor's appointments, personal illness, and similar situations will be considered excused. Hair appointments, excessive homework, and fatigue, and similar situations will be considered unexcused.

Please feel free to e-mail Ms. Teter with any questions or concerns.

Football Friday Night 9/9

Football again this week? It must be fall! Students are encouraged to stay after school on Friday. Some students had difficulty getting dinner last week, so tomorrow pizza will be provided for $3. We will rehearse 4-5:30 and students will wear uniforms since the weather will be cooler this week.

Please remember to bring your band shoes and BLACK SOCKS to school. Students who ordered band shoes can pick them up after rehearsal today (Thursday). Please make sure to send payment ($30) for the shoes if you have not done so already.

This week a parent has donated drinks for the band during the game. Donations of bottled water are always needed and very much appreciated.

GO RAVENS!!!!
